Building a luxury custom home is an exciting and rewarding experience—but it also comes with a lot of questions. At Anderson Homes, we believe informed clients make confident decisions, especially when they understand the many facets that go into building a durable dream home. That’s why we take the time to assist and guide each client through every step of the home building journey process, from design to final walkthrough.
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we hear from clients throughout the building journey—and the importance of them to the longevity of their homes.

Why Do You Finish the Siding On-Site?
We finish siding on-site to ensure a seamless, long-lasting result. By painting or staining after installation, we’re able to better seal all nail holes, cut edges, and seams for a more refined look and added protection. This method also allows for better touch-ups over time, ensures consistent color across every surface, and offers greater flexibility in selecting custom exterior colors.

What’s the Difference Between LP® SmartSide® and HardiePlank®?
Both LP® SmartSide® and HardiePlank® are widely recognized siding products—but they offer distinct advantages depending on your goals. At Anderson Homes, we primarily recommend and use LP SmartSide, an engineered wood product known for its durability, workability, and lighter weight. These features allow for a cleaner finished look and offer more flexibility when it comes to your home’s architectural style and color palette.
HardiePlank®, a fiber cement product, is valued for its fire resistance and classic aesthetic. However, it has more limitations in finish options and can be more restrictive when applied to custom exterior designs. While we do offer HardiePlank upon special request, LP SmartSide aligns best with the level of customization, finish quality, and design versatility we provide in our homes.
What Are the Benefits of Sound Insulation?
Sound insulation goes beyond comfort—it’s about creating a peaceful, private environment within your home. We often recommend sound-dampening materials in bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and between floors to reduce noise transfer. These solutions can dramatically improve the comfort of day-to-day living and are especially important in larger, open-concept homes.
What’s the Difference Between LVP and Hardwood Flooring?
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) offers the look of hardwood with enhanced durability and moisture resistance—making it a great choice for lower levels and high-traffic spaces. True hardwood delivers unmatched natural beauty but must be refinished over time. At Anderson Homes, we use Coretec Premium as our standard LVP—a product that offers advanced features many homeowners find even more beneficial than traditional hardwood. LVP offers longevity with classic appeal. We’ll help you evaluate both based on your lifestyle and aesthetic goals.

Should I Consider Radiant Floor Heating in the Basement?
Radiant floor heating is a popular feature for luxury homes in colder climates like Wisconsin. It provides consistent, comfortable warmth from the ground up, making lower levels feel more inviting year-round. While it doesn’t replace a traditional HVAC system, it plays a key role in the overall heating strategy of the home—allowing for more balanced comfort and potentially reducing the demand on forced-air systems.
Radiant systems are also known for their quiet operation, energy efficiency, and ability to eliminate cold spots, especially in finished basement spaces.
Why Choose a 10-Foot Basement Over a 9-Foot?
While 9-foot basement ceilings are considered spacious, opting for a 10-foot ceiling brings a greater sense of openness and architectural refinement—especially when the lower level is designed as a livable extension of the home. The added height enhances natural light, increases design flexibility, and helps the basement feel just as inviting as the main living spaces.
At Anderson Homes, we apply this same principle throughout the home. We also build 10-foot ceilings on the main level, which, paired with our standard 8-foot interior doors, creates a grand, proportionate look that elevates every room. These thoughtful height and scale choices contribute to the seamless luxury our homes are known for—on every level.
